EQUINE-ASSISTED THERAPY IN ELGIN, IL

A Different Way to Experience Therapy

Step outside of the traditional therapy room and into a space where healing happens through connection, movement, and presence with horses.

What is Equine-Assisted Therapy?

Equine-Assisted Therapy is a unique, experiential approach to mental health that incorporates guided interactions with horses to support emotional growth, self-awareness, and nervous system regulation.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, this work is body-based and relational—helping you process experiences in a way that goes beyond words.

Horses are highly intuitive animals. They respond to subtle shifts in energy, emotion, and behavior, offering immediate, honest feedback that can deepen insight and connection.

Common Questions about Equine-Assisted Therapy

  • Equine-assisted sessions are provided as part of individual psychotherapy and may be eligible for insurance reimbursement depending on your plan and benefits.

We bill using standard psychotherapy codes, and coverage will vary based on your specific insurance policy. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to better understand your out-of-network or in-network benefits.

  • We are currently accepting clients ages 14 and older for equine-assisted psychotherapy. Younger clients may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on their comfort level, ability to engage safely around horses, and clinical fit.

Not sure if it's the right fit? We're happy to talk it through. Reach us at info@hopeologypsych.com or (630) 283-2880.

  • Not at all. No prior horse experience is needed.

Sessions are designed to meet you where you are, and you’ll be guided every step of the way in a safe and supportive environment.

  • No; sessions are entirely ground-based.

Work with the horses may include observation, interaction, and guided activities, but no riding is involved.

  • Equine-assisted sessions take place at a private, local equine facility in the St. Charles/Elgin area.

The setting provides a calm, natural environment designed to support safety, comfort, and meaningful therapeutic work.

Additional details will be provided after scheduling or during the consultation process.

  • We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for being outdoors.

Depending on the weather, you may also want to bring layers or dress accordingly for the season.

We’re here to help you take the next step toward healing and growth.
